Theresa A. Ward clearly loves her characters, and that love shines through her book SHE WORE THE NAME. She gives them elaborate, carefully designed backstories, with full histories, friendships, family connections, personalities and ambitions. As the book unfolds, we learn more and more about them, particularly about our heroine Sarai Chameleon, whose history has on one hand set her up for power, success, and the loyalty of devoted friends, and on the other left her traumatized in unexpected and painful ways.

The stories are rich and full of life and history, giving each character roots in the past which help to shape the people they are now, as well as the relationships they have with others. Deep religious faith permeates the novel, along with the love found between family and those friends who are as close as or closer than family.”

I am a reader & I was happy to purchase this book. I am the great niece of the Author. WHOOP, WHOOP1! Its full of poetry and black history. I was surprised to find that type of detail and appreciated it. I am 20 years old, and I recommend it for a school project or causal reading. It’s a keeper. The Author gives part of the sales away for scholarships to colleges. Just saying. Nobody is doing that!!
